WHAT YOU NEED
2 empty 3x3x3 inch gift boxes (available at box stores)
Craft glue gun
Craft tacky glue
2 sheets of different colored felt.
Safety scissors
1 pack of multi-colored 1/4 inch round stickers (available at office supply stores)
HOW TO DO IT
For each die:
Cut one strip of felt to measure 3 inches wide by 12 inches long.
Cut two squares of the same color felt to measure 3 inches by 3 inches.
Wrap the 3 inch by 12 inch piece around the box, securing with a craft glue gun.
Use the glue gun to secure the two, 3 inch by 3 inch felt squares to the uncovered sides of the box.
Secure the round stickers to each side of the "die", starting with "one" and ending with "six".
HOW TO PLAY
Print out a scorecard from the
template
.
Have one player roll the dice two #215. After each roll, count the dots that appear on the top of each die and add them together. This will be the game's "winning number." (Use the number 15 as an example.)
Have each child take 2 turns rolling the dice to see how close they can get to the number 15. The player whose two rolls come closest to 15 is the winner. Anyone rolling over 15 is out.
Encourage older children to pick a "magic" number that is 36 or less. Have them roll the dice once and multiply the numbers that appear on the top of each die.
The first player to come closest to the "magic" number is the winner.
TIPS
To keep the round stickers from falling off of the felt, apply a small amount of tacky glue to them before putting them on the die.
Have scratch paper handy so that the children can add and subtract their scores.
FOLLOW UP FUN
For more math related fun, introduce your family to the game of Dominos. Younger children can begin using the Domino set by matching the dots on each playing piece.
